Gloria Barkley graduated from Vancouver School of Art, now Emily Carr University, 1968 with a major in painting and a minor in sculpture. Ill health prevented her from following visual art interests so she studied Creative Writing at Douglas College, Simon Fraser University, and the University of B.C.

Gloria wrote and self-published her first chapbook Stemwinder about the gold-mining town of Hedley, B.C where Gloria lived as a youngster. She is writing Stemwinder II, at present, her memoirs. Gloria creates art works in stained glass, mosaics, watercolour, drawing, as well as clay. Gloria is a Certified Toastmaster.

She is an Associate Member of The League of Canadian Poets, a member of Burnaby Writers Society, Federation of British Columbia Writers, West Coast Clay Sculpture Association, Tricity Potters, Fraser Valley Potters Guild, B.C. Potters and member of the drop-in clay group, Port Moody Art Centre, Port Moody. Gloria attends King of Life Lutheran Church, Coquitlam, B.C.

Gloria is a member of Amnesty International and she is a breast cancer survivor. She is a member of Luther Hoofers Relay Team. Anyone wishing to support Gloria on the Luther Hoofers team in the annual Relay for Life can make cheques out to Canadian Cancer Society.
